FAQ

REAL ESTATE LICENSURE IN GEORGIA

What are the requirements to become licensed in Georgia?

To be licensed as a salesperson, a candidate must complete a GREC approved pre license course of at least 75 hours, which includes passing a school examination.  In addition, the candidate must be at least 18 years old and be a high school graduate or equivalent. The candidate must also pass a state examination which is administered for the GREC by Applied Measurement Professionals.

Come on, is there really a difference between real estate schools?

In that we are dealing with people, philosophies, experiences and passions, there certainly is a difference!  iRET was created because Tom Gillett has a passion for real estate and education!  Over the years, Tom has instructed literally thousands of real estate licensees, including some of the most well-known and successful agents and brokers in Georgia!  Each class is either taught by Tom or by an instructor who has been handpicked and trained by Tom to “do it the right way; for the right reason”.

What are the continuing education requirements?

All licensees who received their license after 1979 must complete a minimum of 6 hours of continuing education per year during the license period.  Currently the license period is 4 years and ends on the last day of the licensees birth month.  iRET has a full menu of in class and online education opportunities available.

Is there post license education required?

For new salesperson licensees, there is a post license education requirement.  25 hours of education approved by the GREC as post license must be completed within the first year of licensure.  The course must include the student passing a written examination for completion.

How do I register to take the Georgia exam?

Once you have completed the education requirement and passed the school examination, you can register to take the state examination at AMP (www.goamp.com).  Make sure to take your driver’s license and a suitable calculator, but do not take in any other articles.  Be on time and confident you have what you need to succeed…..if you got your education from iRET, you do!!

How do I activate the real estate license?

If you wish, you can activate your license at the testing site.  You must have a Georgia Criminal Information Center (GCIC) report, your passing certificate from the testing center and a Sponsoring Broker’s Form signed by the broker for which you are going to work.  This form can be found in the Candidate Information Booklet at www.goamp.com.

RENEWING A REAL ESTATE LICENSE

How do I renew a license which is about to expire?

To renew a real estate license, you can do so on the GREC website at www.grec.state.ga.us.  You must have completed all of your required continuing education and the GREC must have a Verification of Lawful Presence form on file.  It is $25 less to renew online vs. sending in a paper application and is easy to do with a credit card!

What is a Lawful Presence Verification form?

Effective January 1, 2012, the Georgia “Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011” requires all applicants for real estate licensure or for renewal of an existing license submit:

(1) a secure and verifiable document (typically a copy of your driver’s license), and;

(2) a signed and sworn affidavit verifying the applicant’s lawful presence in the United States.  This form can be found athttp://www.grec.state.ga.us/PDFS/Other/GRECGREAB%20Verification%202012.pdf
